Waste Management
Holden has an estimated 799 households (not including commercial properties).
We generate approximately (based on regional data) 729 TONS of trash per year. That's 1825 pounds PER HOUSEHOLD. Or 1,458,000 POUNDS!!
1,458,000 pounds is equivalent to: 97 elephants or 46 Semi trucks!
Over the next year, the City of Holden is going to provide a lot of information to the residents of Holden. The Holden City Council has been exploring the concept of having one centralized trash hauler, but they are also aware of the impact it might have on the residents, our current haulers, and especially those on a fixed income. No decision will be made immediately, but in the spring and summer of 2026, the City will reach out to the residents in various forums to get feedback - through surveys, community feedback, and general comments.
Please wait for the survey to be released (here, in the Holden Image, and on Facebook) before providing feedback. We want to hear from all of you.
Please look at the documents below and begin thinking about waste management in general. And even if the City does NOT pursue a centralized trash hauler, we can all think about how we can Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle our trash.
